Plaža Kaštelet is a scenic pebble-and-rock public beach just west of Split's center, prized for exceptionally clear, azure water and a natural, low-commercial atmosphere. It offers free showers, changing cabins, toilets and ample free parking, backed by a young tree park that provides only limited shade. There are no sunbeds and essentially no bars, restaurants or shops, so visitors should bring their own food and drink.

Best time:
Early morning in summer to secure parking and avoid peak-season crowds; late spring and September are pleasantly quiet and warm.
Who it's for:
Swimmers and nature lovers who want clear water and quiet over amenities and beach bars.

FAQ

Are there sunbeds or umbrellas to rent?
No, there are no rental sunbeds, and umbrellas are hard to anchor in the pebbles, so bring a towel and mat.
Is there food and drink at the beach?
Virtually none — reviewers mention at most a makeshift stand for beverages, so bring your own food and refreshments.
Is it safe for children and weak swimmers?
The water is clear but the seabed drops off steeply within a few metres, so caution is needed for young kids and non-strong swimmers.
Is parking available?
Yes, there is a spacious free parking lot, though it can fill up early in peak season.
What kind of beach is it?
A pebble and rocky beach with steps for water entry; water shoes are recommended.
